About Me

 


Hey everyone! I wanted to start off by introducing myself. I am Hannah Valine Hansen and I grew up in a small town in Washington that you have probably never heard of called Mattawa. Though small, I love my town. It is mostly Hispanic which has allowed me to be part of an amazing culture with the yummiest food! It is a beautiful place of orchards, fields, and mountains.


A little bit about me as a person. I would love to think of myself as a patient person, but I must say that that would not be one of the words I would use to describe myself.  I would say that I am a happy person, got some sugar and spice in me for sure, and I love to be goofy and silly. I love to see the world from different views, which is why I love school. My escape is piano and music. I love to sing and be goofy with my best friend/sister. We have the most fun on our car trips when we can blast our music and sing and be our goofy selves.


I come from a large family of nine, six siblings, two parents, and of course, me. Though my family is not perfect, as I believe most of us can say, I do know that they are one of the biggest parts of my life and mean the world to me. I am a big family person and look forward to the day when I will have my own. I love learning about the family in school and from other families around me as I try to prepare myself for my own future family.


Through this blog I hope to share some of my insights and thoughts on the family. Even if some of the topics are a little controversial and hard, I hope to not change people’s minds, but simply broaden my mind and others on the family in ways maybe we hadn’t thought of.

  This week I have been learning about sexual intimacy in marriage. It was very interesting to learn that sexual intimacy is more than just having sex. It's giving and taking, thinking not of yourself, but of your partner. Our Family Cultures!!!

      Last week I touched on symbolic interaction theory and how our cultural backgrounds can lead us to draw conclusions. There are so many different types of family cultures. We all have our own family culture and when we get married, we start our own family culture. When we start our own family, it is easy to continue doing what our families have down and keep the culture we grew up in alive. While families are amazing, no family culture is perfect. Getting married and starting a family is an opportunity to keep and change things from the culture you grew up in.   We can also draw from other families around us. Those we babysit for, go to church with, family friends, etc. By being around different families, we can take and discard ideas that we would like for our own future family, but we actually have to be intentional with the things we want to include or we won’t make any changes; we would keep our old cultures, the good and the bad.   I know from...

A Different Perspective on Homosexuality

  Hey everyone! I am going to talk about something that scares me a little bit since it is so controversial. If you disagree with anything, I say I am open to new ideas and ways of thinking or maybe you misinterpreted me and I would love to clear it up. I wanted to touch on homosexuality. It has been on my mind this week and I wanted to share some of my opinions on it. Now being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. My brother is homosexual which is made me have a hard time with the discussion of homosexuals. It has always been something that I can’t really allow myself to think too deeply into because I know one day it will all make sense and I just need to wait till then.
